Macario Canyon Tunnel Vertical Shaft, Carlsbad Desalination Project Pipeline, San Diego County Water Authority, San Diego, California, Foxfire Constructors
The Carlsbad Desalination project, totaling $1 billion, transforms ocean water into potable water for San Diego County. A crucial component, the Macario Canyon tunnel, forms part of a pipeline network linking the Carlsbad desalination treatment plant through a 10-mile pipeline. This pipeline ascends a 680-foot elevation gain to San Marcos and integrates into the San Diego County Water Authority system. A vertical shaft, measuring 82 feet deep and 17 feet in diameter, serves to connect the tunnel's endpoint to the buried pipeline, completing the conveyance pipeline system.
